Since Malaysia's involvement in the Olympics, sports such as aquatic (diving), badminton and cycling have been regular sports until 2016. In fact, hockey is also among the Malaysian representatives who consistently compete in the Olympics except in Rome 1960, Seoul 1988, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.
Several other sports also recorded the best achievements through the former national sprint champion, Datuk Dr. M. Jegathesan in the 200m event in Tokyo 1968 and Mexico 1972, Ishtiaq Mubarak in the 110m hurdles (Mexico 1972).
Malaysian football is also not lonely from competing in the Olympics when it twice qualified for the prestigious Games in 1972 in Munich and 1980 in Moscow but did not participate due to the country's political stance at that time
