Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA) is a Sports Festival organized by the National Sports Council of Malaysia in collaboration with the Malaysian Olympic Council, the National Sports Association and the State Government involved in organizing this biennial youth sports event. Apart from aiming to unearth new talents in the field of sports, the selection of states as the host is aimed at upgrading sports facilities in the states to assist the development of sports as a whole in Malaysia.
The festival started in 1986 with Kuala Lumpur as the first host of this event. The Games are held every two years by state until 2010. The Sports Development Committee (JKPS) meeting in 2010 has decided for the Games to be organized every year starting in 2011 with the National Sports Council as the host every odd year in an effort to develop and democratize all sports in Malaysia especially sports of choice. However, the Malaysian Games in the odd year was stopped in 2015, due to the tight state sports agenda and the high cost for the State Sports Council to fund a contingent of the Malaysian Games every year.
The Johor Malaysia Games (SUKMA) which is scheduled to take place on 11 - 19 July 2020 has been postponed to 6 to 14 March 2021 after that date was decided in a Special Meeting of the Sukma Supreme Committee. Also agreed is the date of the SUKMA Johor 2020 Para which is postponed to a new date from 5 to 10 April 2021 apart from the branding of the games remain to SUKMA 2020 and the SUKMA 2020.
