Slider
The Asia Games which was first introduced in 1951 in New Delhi is a festival held every 4 years where the Games are organized by the Asia Olympic Council (OCA). Triggering to hold sporting events among Asia countries began in 1948 when 13 Asia delegates began participating in the Olympic Games in London.
The Asia Games have grown rapidly to become the second largest Games in the world after the Olympics in terms of the number of types of sports competed. Starting from 6 types of sports, 11 countries and 489 athletes, now it has increased to 40 types of sports and 45 countries OCA and 11338 athletes at the 2018 XVIII Asia Games Jakarta / Palembang.
Malaysia started participating in 1954 and was known as Malaya at that time. In general, at the 1994 Asia Games, the national contingent participated in 59 events followed by 93 events at the 1998 Asia Games out of the total number of events competed. However, at the XVI Asia Games, in Guangzhou 2010, Malaysia participated in 186 events out of a total of 476 events competed and this is the largest participation of the Malaysian contingent event to the Asia Games.
Although the country participated in the Asia Games in 1954, the collection of national medals only began at the Asia Games III, 1958 in Tokyo, Japan. The National Contingent's best performance at the Games was at the XVI Asia Games, in Guangzhou 2010 with 9 gold, 18 silver and 14 bronze medals. The following is a summary of the participation and performance of the national contingent at the Asia Games.
